The City of Lilburn is gearing up for the 9th Annual Lilburn Idol. The competition, which is open to all ages and local talent, will begin with a series of Friday evening performances starting on June 8 and running until June 29 at 7 p.m. in Lilburn City Park. The competition finale will be held on July 20.
“We have 59 contestants this year ranging in age from 5 to 71. The majority of participants fall within the 10-18 age range as a result of our work with music department heads and chorus teachers in our cluster schools,” says Leslie Edwin, events coordinator for the City of Lilburn.
This year’s competition offers an increase in audience vote weight from 20 percent to 40 percent, with judges’ feedback counting for 60 percent. A quarter buys each person one vote per performer. Each show will feature an intermission performance by a past Lilburn Idol winner or local musical talent.
Virtual Adrenaline Recording Studio (virtualadrenaline.com) in Lawrenceville will be providing professional recording studio time to all finale winners, as well as a larger package for the one jury selection winner. Several of the Lilburn’s small business sponsors will also be giving prizes and small gifts to all contestants.
All that attend are encouraged to bring blankets to layout on the grass or folding chairs to enjoy the show. Local restaurants, such as Spiced Right and Joe’s to Goes, will be serving food for purchase on various competition dates.
