The Story:
Terry Rathmann started his television programming career with Turner Broadcasting Systems in 1992. In 1996, Terry left TBS and took a position with DIRECTV as their Area Sales Manager. In 2001, he founded Worldly Concepts, which now provides home automation and theater products, high-speed Internet, and satellite TV.
My Idea Of Fun
I like to get away and go to the mountains for some fresh air and peace and quiet. Lynda and I have two dogs, and it is very pleasing to watch them run and play in an open field while we have uninterrupted conversations.
How I Got Here
I have an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to succeed. Our success is really based on hard work, long hours, creativity, great personnel and exceptional customer service.
Things I Tell Myself
My responsibility is to create an environment in which customers enjoy the experience of doing business with us, and our staff members develop themselves into better people, husbands, wives and friends.
What I'd Most Like To See
I would like a better healthcare system. I want to see the elderly grow old with dignity, respect and be appreciated for their efforts in shaping this country.
What's Next For Me
I would like to obtain several Green Energy Solution contracts within the commercial building industry, audio and video government projects, and create several high-end custom, residential builder relationships.
Harnessing Technology with Just One Touch
When it comes to harnessing the power and innovation of technology, actor/producer Tyler Perry and the Gwinnett County Police SWAT Team go to the same source.
For Tyler Perry, the need was an integrated home technology system that enables one-touch control of his home's security, entertainment and energy systems.
For the GCPD SWAT Team, a $1.3 million command vehicle equipped with a rotating, top-mounted satellite dish enables them to monitor local news in a crisis and maintain constant communications, no matter the location.
For both, it was Worldly Concepts/Direct Satellite TV that met their needs. Terry Rathmann, Worldly Concepts president and CEO, founded the company in 2001, eager to do business his way after a career in satellite TV sales for both Turner Broadcasting and DIRECTV.
"We provide simple, customized, affordable control of your music, movies, lights, temperature and security system from anywhere in your business or home," says Rathmann.
Worldly Concepts serves businesses, government, retailers, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, educational institutions and private home owners, with installations in premier facilities including the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center and the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center.
In today's economy, says Rathmann, green energy solutions are of particular interest to business owners. "We can integrate lights, HVAC, security and even a company's sprinkler systems so that all can be controlled remotely or on a single wall unit," he explains. The business is then able to plan how to best use all their energy resources – a major boost to the bottom line. "Our customers can log on and see a graph of their peak energy use – and plan accordingly."
Integrating technology in a business conference room enables one-touch control of all needed components – including computers, monitors, lights and more. A simple on-screen television menu makes it easy to browse, select and control.
"Technology should be used to make your business and home life easier, conserve costs and energy, and communicate your message to your customers in the most innovative and effective way. We make that possible," says Rathmann.
The Worldly Concepts showroom features all the innovations available so a business manager can see the benefits. And for clients too busy to make it to the showroom, Worldly Concepts has just introduced the Mobile Virtual Presenter – a 22-inch touch screen computer that simulates all the technology and shows businesses and homeowners how to customize their own system.
Beyond the technology, it's the service that makes the difference, says Rathmann. "We back it all up. Our number one source of new business is referrals from existing customers. That's what makes us both successful and proud."
